San Pedro Square Market
Type: Retail
Location: San Jose, CA
Award: AIA Silicon Valley Chapter Award for Best Urban Design
This project is the winner of the AIA Silicon Valley’s Design Award for Best Urban Design. This collaborative effort included several design firms and was a Design-Build project by Barry Swenson Builder. The centerpiece of the project is an Open Air Plaza that serves as a Central Public Space, Dining Patio, and a Bandstand for events. The plaza also contains the oldest building in downtown San Jose (Luis Maria Peralta Adobe, built in 1777) and the three buildings that surround the plaza make up the rest of the Urban Market. The oldest market building is the El Dorado Bakery Building from the 1880’s and the other two are the Lusardi Building that was home to the San Jose Earthquakes Soccer Club and the Perrazzo Building which is the only new building built in the style of a Steel Barn structure. This locale has become the place in downtown San Jose for people to gather for meals, have a drink with a friend or work all day in the ample open space within the property.
